If you’re thinking of installing a new furnace, there are a number of furnace add-on options that will benefit your home. Added features can improve the safety of your new furnace, along with improving its efficiency and performance.
Pleated air filters. Typically a furnace installation will include a standard flat-panel air filter. Instead, choose a pleated air filter to improve indoor air quality. The greater amount of surface area in a pleated filter also will ensure smoother airflow, increasing furnace efficiency. For households with special air-quality concerns, more advanced filtration systems are av
ailable, which you can learn about from your HVAC contractor.
Chimney liners. A chimney liner can be installed to ensure furnace exhausts are safely expelled form the home. These are often recommended with new furnace installations in older homes, to improve both safety and performance.
A zoning system. A great way to save energy and money over time is to install a home zoning system. This involves designating multiple heating (and cooling) zones in your home with individual temperature controls. You can heat occupied rooms for maximum comfort and save money by not heating rooms that don’t need it.
Programmable thermostat. In order to enjoy even more energy savings and better comfort, install a programmable thermostat. You can schedule temperature changes according to your daily schedule, lowering the heating when you’re away at work or sleeping.
Humidifiers. A new furnace installation can often have a significant effect on your home’s humidity level. An HVAC contractor can check your humidity levels and determine if you need to install a whole-house humidifier to optimize comfort and protect your home.
